FOSTER HOME (NAME, CITY & STATE, ZIP, EMAIL) DeeAnn Jones, West Columbia, South Carolina 29170, DeesDawgs@aol.com

Toby was a stray that was picked up by animal services.  When he arrived at animal services his eye was bleeding and shut.  He had to wait a full 5 days just to see if his owner would show up before All American Dachshund Rescue (AADR) could rescue him.  On the 5th day he was rescued by AADR and taken immediately to the vet.  The vet said he had to have his eye removed because he had a corneal tumor that ruptured and the retinal muscle was coming through his cornea.  He must have been in terrible pain!!   During the same time we found out he was Heartworm positive and had to start heartworm treatment.  This little guy has been through so much!  He has had his eye removed but that has not stopped him from everyday life.  Toby is the sweetest guy and loves to be held.  He gets along well with his fur sisters and seems to really do well in a home with other dogs.  He loves to sleep in the big bed beside his foster mom so she can rub his tummy!  He does great with all strangers, even likes kids and allows them to pick him up.  He is not completely housetrained but he is working on it.  He REALLY loves to walk and wants to go outside every time you open the door (so be careful that he does not run past you - so for this reason, he MUST be on a leash at all times when not in a fenced in area).  He must have been crate trained at his last home because he will go and sleep in the extra large kennel during the day -- I have never closed the door on the kennel but I have closed the door to the room and he does well --- he whines for a minute or so then settles in.  He loves stuffed animals and will carry them around and tear out the stuffing! He still chews a little so you will have to put your shoes up but he does not do that often.  He is a great rider and if you put a blanket in the back sit he just rides nice and quite - the perfect gentleman!  He is easily trainable because he is only 2 years old!  Can you give Toby a home???

More about Toby

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
