BIO:  Major came from southern Alabama when his family was moving and decided they could not take him with them. Major's wish includes:

  • A fenced yard
  • Another dog to keep him company if you are away
  • No crates ever!
  • No apartments

Major is a small standard. He has lost a little weight and maybe needs to lose another pound or two at the most, which would make him 18 pounds and that’s a small standard. We think he’s allergic to chicken so he’ll have to be on a beef or lamb dog food, no people food! He did have a dental and lost two teeth (we believe it was from chewing on the wires of a kennel and he wore them right down).

Talk about sweet... he’s so sweet and calm for a 4 year old! He does very well with a doggie door but if you don’t have one, then keeping him on a schedule will do the trick. He likes other dogs and actually came in with another younger dog so another dog would be best for him. He does love attention and will freely give kisses!

This boy is full of sweetness and loyalty... please give him a chance at a new better life where he won’t be dumped again.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
