BIO:  Peanut came from Alabama when his owner could no longer care for him. She had rescued him from a family that neglected him for the first 5 years and likely a man had hit him with his hat because he does not care for men wearing hats. Our wish list for Peanut includes:

  • A fenced yard
  • No apartments
  • Another dog to keep him company if you work outside of the home
  • No children or grandchildren unless they are over 10 years of age and closely monitored
  • Someone experienced with escape artists

Peanut is a little timid and you have to let him come to you, but after he’s checked you out then he’s fine with you and wants your attention. He actually does better with women than men but he can tolerate men too as long as they don’t push him.

He gets along with all small dogs but he was an only dog too. His most recent owner was elderly person and home all the time.

Peanut must have a fenced yard and a doggie door would be an added bonus. Also, he is an escape artist so you’ll have to watch him when you open a dog or go through a gate. We’ve been working with him on this and he’s gotten better, but if he sees an opportunity he’ll take it so be forewarned.

You can’t go wrong with this sweet boy!

Good with Some Dogs (No large dogs), Not Good with Cats, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Requires a yard, Leashtrained, Cratetrained

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
