BIO:  Meet Butter, a six-and-a-half-year-old Dorkie (Dachshund/Yorkshire Terrier mix) who has one of the sweetest temperaments of any dog that you have ever met. Butter's must-haves include:

  • Another small dog in the home since he has always had another dog
  • Someone home a lot to help him with potty-training
  • A fenced yard
  • No cats
  • No apartments or high-rises

Butter comes from Illinois and was, along with his brother, surrendered by his young owner who went into the service. When he first came into his foster home, he was very timid and scared. He warmed up rather quickly though and has gotten along with the three female dogs that run the foster home. There have been several play dates with other dogs and Butter has shown that he can get along with just about anybody. He loves to sit in your lap, sleep in the big bed, and appears to be pretty much a Velcro dog.

Since he has warmed up, he has shown that he is a bit of a barker when he is outside. He has done very little barking inside of the house.

He will need someone that keeps him on a strict housebreaking schedule as he does have a bit of a habit of wanting to mark his territory but we have him in a belly band and he’s learning.

Beyond that, he might well be the perfect dog. He is friendly, sweet, and loves to be with his people. Could you be that special person that adopts Butter?

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
