BIO:  Mercedes came from North Carolina when her breeder decided to retire her from breeding. Mercedes came to us very scared. She’s a little better now but still needs someone who will be patient with her. Our must-haves for this beautiful girl include:

  • No apartment or high rises
  • A fenced yard
  • Another adult well-socialized dog for her to learn from
  • Someone with Dachshund experience and/or experience with puppymill dogs is a plus

Mercedes is going to be a wonderful companion for the lucky person approved to adopt her, but you have to earn her trust first. Once she trusts you, then the teaching can begin. She will need help with socialization, especially with strangers and new situations. You’ll need patience and don’t just think it will be quick or easy, it will take time. So if you don’t have the time or the patience, please just pass her by. She did lost about 19 teeth due to lack of dental care as a breeder dog but from now on with yearly dentals, she should keep the ones she has.

If you’ve had past experience with breeder/puppymill dogs, please consider her for your next best friend... she’ll give your love back to you tenfold!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Mercedes in PA

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
