BIO:  Buddy Boy was taken in by a neighbor when his owner passed away. The neighbor decided he didn't want to be tied down by a dog, so Buddy Boy came to rescue. Our must haves for Buddy Boy include:

  • A fenced yard
  • An experienced dachshund owner
  • No apartments or high rises

Buddy Boy is in very good health for his age and only lost a few teeth during his dental cleaning. He also had 2 small benign lumps on his head and foot removed. That is why he has a few stitches visible in his photos. He should weigh about 15 pounds, so he needs to lose a few.

Buddy Boy enjoys going for short walks or being outside as long as it isn't raining. He also enjoys riding in the car. He is doing well with his house training and would do best with a fenced yard and dog door so he can go out when he needs to. He barks at cats we see on walks, so he would not do well with one is his home. Buddy gets along well with the other dachshunds in his foster home. He would be fine as an only dog or with other small dogs. At night he has been sleeping in a crate. He settles down after a few minutes and snoozes quietly under his blanket until it's time to get up.

Buddy is a nice dog, though he can be grouchy, so he needs an adult home with dachshund experience.

If you are looking for a laid-back guy to share short walks and quiet time with, Buddy Boy is the one for you!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
