BIO:  Katrina has been in two homes in the less than 3 years she’s been alive. She came from South Carolina when the second owner could not keep her. We think both homes just didn’t understand what she needs, which is why we are going to be very picky about where she goes.

Our must haves for this sweet girl include:

  • A fenced yard
  • An active family
  • A strong pack leader who is Dachshund savvy
  • Someone who is home a lot is a plus
  • No apartments or high rises (this is firm)
  • Has another small young dog for her to play with

Katrina is a lovely little girl who must be kept busy, which is why she needs a fenced yard. She loves toys and the companionship of other dogs (young and small) and is learning to play with them. If you don’t keep her busy, she’ll find things to get into, like digging in your yard. You must let her know that you are the boss and she’ll respect that, but if you don’t, she’ll run all over you.  If you are interested in this young lady and wish to know more please, email her foster mom.

When we leave the house for short periods of time Katrina does fine in a crate. This girl just needed someone that understands the breed and set some boundaries for her.

Other than that she is a sweet sweet girl and anyone that adopts her is getting a princess. Also we just found out that she'll have to be on special food, Science Diet CD for crystals in her urine. This may cost you just a little more each month but something that she must be on to prevention bladder stones.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Katrina in IL

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
