BIO UPDATE (11/18/2020):  Colin has been with us for over a month now and he is definitely a PEOPLE doggy! He LOVES to be near his people no matter what. He does fine with the other dogs and will interact with them and even play. However, his first choice is his human. Initially he slept next to our bed in a doggy bed all night long without a peep. Then, he discovered the ramp we have leading up to our bed and we began to wake up with him in bed with us. Colin is a snuggler and a great heater for the colder nights.

Colin is very smart but also, in typical doxie fashion, hard headed. At feeding time, he eats separately from our family dogs and when we leave, he happily goes in his crate, with a treat of course. He does great with pottying outside, but prefers you at least stand outside with him. We have not witnessed any accidents in the house. We do not believe he would be great with cats. Small children would also not be a good fit for him. If you are an adult looking for a companion, this could be your guy. Colin would be fine as an only dog. He would not do well in an apartment or high-rise. He has a booming bark that would be hard to overlook.

This handsome, sweet-faced little man is wrapping up heartworm treatment and takes his meds unlike any other dog I have ever seen! He gets liquid in a syringe squirted into his mouth. He comes for his meds as if it were a treat! Please check-out his video.

Colin’s must haves for his new home would include:

  • A fenced yard
  • A very devoted human of his very own who is home more than not
  • Someone who will be patient with him, we believe he is a breeder dump
  • Best as an only dog, he loves his people. (Possibly another doggy but one who would let him be dominant.)
  • No apartments or high-rises.
  • No cats and no young children

BIO:  Colin came from Arkansas where he was in a shelter and a Good Samaritan adopted him to keep him out of the wrong hands because his adoption fee had been waived. This person then reached out to us to ensure he went to a good home because he’s such a sweet boy. He was pretty timid when he first came into rescue, but he’s slowly learning to trust and loves to be with his people.

=============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into the state of CT, RI, NH, ME or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
