BIO: Bruno came in from a shelter in Arkansas along with another Dachshund and unfortunately that dog is heartworm positive and will need to go through treatment before being adopted. When Bruno first came to rescue he was very scared, but then he realized we were not there to hurt him so he slowly came out of his shell. Now he’s happy to see us! Our wishes for Bruno include:
Must have a fenced yard to run and play
Another young small dog to play with and learn from
No apartments or high rises
Someone home a lot to help him be more confident
Bruno is a wonderful boy and just needs to be reassured that things are okay. He’s a little longer legged than most Dachshunds and has such a sweet personality. If you are looking for a project, but not a big project, than you’ll enjoy helping Bruno learn to be a well-socialized pet. He’s a doll baby!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
