BIO:  Toby is a sweet little fellow who was surrendered to a small rural shelter when his owner could no longer care for him. Our must haves for him include:

  • A fenced yard
  • A quiet, adult household
  • No apartments or high rises

Toby came from a chaotic home and was very frightened. A calm environment and gentle treatment have changed his life. He is now a happy little guy who loves to sit on a lap or go for walks. He walks well on a leash and enjoys strolls around the neighborhood to watch squirrels and stretch his legs. He was thin when he arrived and is eagerly working to gain a pound or two. He gets along well with other small dogs, but is afraid of bigger dogs. He does not like cats. Toby would be happiest in a quiet home with no small children. He would be okay with laid-back teenagers. He is mostly housebroken with very few accidents. He has been sleeping in a crate at night, but would love to sleep with his people.

Toby is a handsome little guy who deserves a safe, loving home!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
