BIO:  Lucy came from a flipper (people that get a dog for nothing or next to nothing and sell them with no vetting or any money invested in them, just to make a buck) in Alabama. We had to step up to get her from falling into the hands of a breeder because she was not fixed. Our must haves for her….

  • A fenced yard or secure lanai
  • Another young dog that she can learn from because she is timid, possibly she can be an only dog
  • Someone home a lot to help her with her potty-training
  • Someone that is very patient and knows about timid dogs
  • Because of her thinning coat, we’ll only adopt her out to southern Alabama, Georgia, or Florida, no exceptions

This little girl is so sweet! She also is timid, not as in abused but just not socialized. So you will have to gain her trust and then start working on her learning to like strangers.

We think she would do well as an only dog but again, you must have the patience and the time to help her overcome her weaknesses. Please reach out to her foster mom for more details about Lucy and remember we are looking for a specific home for this little girl.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $45 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well.  For now, please look for dogs on your coast.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
