BIO:  Venus was a breeder release from Alabama. By her health and looking at her paws, she was not well cared for however, this sweet girl is loving, snuggly and obedient! She has learned many commands and how to be a good citizen in her foster home; she's very smart!

She will snuggle on your lap when you are watching TV on the couch. She'll lay in a doggie bed nicely at your feet, if you are busy. She just likes to be near her people! She would enjoy sleeping in the big bed with her forever family and definitely wants to be with her foster brother (15 year old male dachshund) at all times.

She's well potty-trained and goes outside perfectly! She's using the ramp to our couch. We want to keep her back healthy!

Venus came to rescue heartworm positive. She has had all 3 of her shots (2/9/2021, 3/9-10/2021) and is now waiting to be confirmed they are gone (follow up test scheduled for 4/9/2021). Then, she can be on preventative to keep from getting them again.

Venus has also been diagnosed with Cushing's Syndrome. She's currently on Vetoryl (5 mg capsule twice daily). She will need this the rest of her life, along with regular blood tests to be sure her dosage is correct. Her forever home will need to keep these ongoing forever costs in mind!

Venus still needs to be spayed and has a mammory tumor that needs removed. Additionally, the vet felt her levels in her gallbladder may mean it should be removed, too. A new ultrasound once her heartworm and Cushing's is under control should check this prior to surgery.

Our must haves for this loving girl include:

  • A fenced yard
  • Someone who understands her health issues and the financial obligation that goes with them
  • Another dog to keep her company if you can't be home
  • No apartments or high rises

Venus is a sweet girl and loves to snuggle on your lap. Please consider giving this girl the forever home she deserves!

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
