BIO UPDATE (5/4/2021):  Dottie has been in her foster home for a month now. We are so in love with this sweet girl! She is so smart; she has mapped out her route to everything she wants or thinks she needs including the cat. She gets along well with her foster brothers and sisters and enjoys sitting in the sun. Her favorite past-time is chasing toys that make noises or the outside cat with a bell on her collar.

Dottie loves to snuggle and enjoys getting her weekly spa day at the groomers. I have noticed she is a little wobbly in her back due to a prior back issue that has been addressed. I don’t walk her on a leash but she thoroughly enjoys riding in a stroller.

This girl has a heart full of love to offer her family. Please contact her foster family with any questions, we would love to tell you about this sweet girl!

BIO:  Dottie is blind, just know that blind dogs do absolutely fine in a home once they learn the lay of the land. Having patience will help her as she learns her way around. She came from New York and was surrendered when her owner moved. She did come in with another dog though they are not bonded, but she would do best with another small, adult dog in the household.

Our must haves for this precious girl include:

  1. A fenced yard
  2. No apartments or high rises
  3. Other dogs in the home must be small
  4. Someone who is home a lot to help her transition

Dottie is a sweet, sweet girl and deserves a last forever home. Except for being blind she’s in excellent health. At one time she had some back issues which could be why she walks with a side to side gait but it doesn’t slow her down, she gets along just fine. Her adopter will need to keep her weight down and not allow any jumping off furniture or doing stairs. Don’t let her issues stop you from adopting this delightful little girl. You could not ask for a better one than her!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
