BIO UPDATE (5/15/2021):  Ava is a cuddler! She loves to curl up in your lap or next to you on the couch or in a big chair. She’s very fond of a cushy dog bed too with blankets to get “just right”! She also loves to sunbathe and enjoys the outdoors.

She gets along with all of my dogs very well but is partial to my male doxie.

Ava’s done well when left with the others for short periods of time. She would definitely be happiest with another dog or two to be with or someone who is home a lot as she loves her people.

Ava likes to go to her crate for meals and takes her daily seizure medication perfectly in a small food ball.

Although Ava can be a bit shy with new people at first and will bark “stranger danger”, she warms up quickly given a little time. Then she’s always happy to see them again!

Also, Ava gives the best little soft kisses ever! A true love bug! She’s looking for that special someone... will you be the lucky one to receive all this love?

BIO:  Ava came from New York when her family could no longer care for her due to a move. Ava is a delicate little girl, very sweet, and loves attention. She gets along with dogs her own size but we feel large dogs would scare her because she is so tiny. She can be nervous around new people but does warm up. She loves laying in the sun and can often be found sunning herself.

Our wish list for beautiful Ava includes:

  • A fenced yard
  • Another adult, small dog to keep her company if you have to be out
  • No apartment or high rises

Ava is on medication for her seizures so please don’t want to adopt her just because of her size, adopt her knowing that she has to be on this medication for the rest of her life. If you are looking for a sweet little girl that will brighten your day, every day, then look no further, here she is!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please review Read Before You Adopt and then you can complete an Application.

THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

More about Ava in IN

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Requires a yard, Leashtrained, Cratetrained, Affectionate, Even-tempered

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
