BIO: We think this little lady would have a sad tale to tell if she could talk. She was picked up as a stray in South Carolina and she was very, very timid and heartworm positive. We are treating her for heartworms but she also will have to be spayed and have a hernia fixed before she can go to you. She needs someone who can look into her eyes and see the sadness there but also the hope that someone will be kind to her and not abuse her like she was before she came to us. She needs to find someone who will work with her and bring the love back into her eyes. Are you the person she needs? You will need to be patient with her as she learns to trust but we know in time she can be the pet she longs and deserves to be.
Our must haves for this precious girl include:
- A fenced yard
- No apartments or high rises
- Another well-socialized dog to help her with trust
- Someone who truly wants to write her rescue story and give her time to achieve that
If you really feel you are the person who will help to turn her life around, please fill out an adoption application. Oh, one more thing... we did do a DNA test of her and she is 50% Beagle and 50% American Strafford Terrier but don’t let that deter you... she is a doll baby, no mean bones in her body!
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
