BIO:  Myers was surrendered to a vet clinic in East Tennessee when his previous owners could not pay for surgery to remove a blockage he had. The clinic did the surgery then sent him to the animal shelter and they contacted us to take him. He was very, very scared when we went to pick him up but he’s now more comfortable with his situation. He did get pneumonia and had to spend a week at our vet clinic and had to undergo another surgery. We really thought we were going to lose him. Thankfully, he did a turn-around, has completely recovered, and is now looking for his forever home.

Since arriving at his foster home, Myers has really come out of his shell. He LOVES being in a pack, and fit in with his two foster sisters immediately, following one around all the time. He is the sweetest love bug, always wants to be touching his foster parents or one of the dogs, and he loves snuggling. He is mostly housetrained, but does have the occasional accident, so someone needs to be willing to work with him. He is not food or toy aggressive at all, but like a typical dachshund, he is food motivated. Myers would be very happy in a house with at least one other dog or a human who is home a lot. As long as he is with his pack, he is so happy. He is really the sweetest dog you’ll ever meet and with everything he’s been through, he deserves to find his forever home with his own pack. Is that you?

Our must haves for this precious boy include:

  • A fenced yard
  • No apartments or high rises
  • Someone who is home a lot and not gone 8+ hours a day
  • Another small, young dog or two because he is learning to play

Do you meet all these requirements and want a wonderful companion? Then Myers is for you! Please go to our website and apply. If you let this sweet pup slip through your fingers, you have really missed out on a wonderful little guy!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

More about Myers in NY

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Requires a yard, Leashtrained, Cratetrained, Affectionate, Even-tempered

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
