BIO:  Sunshine came from a breeder in North Carolina who was retiring some of her dogs. She has a soft, sweet temperament and dearly wants her own forever home. She follows her foster mom around the house like a devoted groupie. Sunshine will watch TV with you, nap while you read a book, and supervise any gardening activities you may have in your yard. She is the consummate companion! Be advised... she wants to sleep in the big bed with you, as a little princess deserves.

She gets along great with her foster mother’s dog pack, which has males and females.

Sunshine does have a bum leg, which is a result of a birth defect. It looks normal but she drags it along when walking or playing. It does not hurt her nor does it slow her down when she is running around playing with the dog pack.

Our wish list for this beautiful girl includes:

  • A fenced yard
  • No apartments or high rises
  • Another dog or two for her to play with (small dogs preferable)
  • Someone who can be home part of the time

If you fit these requirements and want to make her a part of your family, then please fill out our online adoption application and contact her foster home with any questions.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

More about Sunshine in WI

Good with Dogs, Good with Older/Considerate Kids Only, Good with Adults, Requires a yard, Even-tempered

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
