BIO:  Gunther came from southern Alabama when his owner passed away and the family didn’t want him. This sweet little guy needs a patient, loving home since his world has been turned upside down. He must have been scolded over his lifetime so he’s unsure if what he’s done is okay. But when he knows you’re happy with him, he wags that tail, gives the sweetest kisses, and is overjoyed to follow you anywhere! He follows you all over, about 5 steps behind and tail just a wagging. He enjoys all of his foster dog siblings and likes a more laid-back environment so he is best suited for a home without children.

He loves being outside! And watch out little critters, you can’t hide from this nose! If he finds a little creature, he will dig to get to where it’s hiding… he’s determined so be prepared.

Our must haves for this precious boy include:

  • A fenced yard
  • Another dog or two to keep him company
  • He’d like someone who is home a lot so he can follow you around and help with chores

The best thing we can say about Gunther is... he is a joy to foster! If you’d love a little shadow and a companion to snuggle on the couch with, this is your guy! Just know he needs to be sure he can trust you, so patience and positive reinforcement is a must. He’s a very, very fast learner and wants to please you above all else! His loyalty is unmatched and this precious little guy deserves all the love he can get!

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
