BIO UPDATE (9/18/2021):  Julia is starting to learn how to be a pet. She is doing great! She has learned to play with her foster dog siblings and gets along well with pups large and small. Check out her photo with her big buddy "Nandi" the Tibetan Mastiff. Julia is playing with some toys and loves to grab shoes and clothing and take off with them…which is quite comical as she only has four teeth and can’t damage them at all. She wags her tail all day long. You can just see her happiness from being with a family. Julia is going to make a great pet for someone willing to continue to let her learn being a pet!

BIO:  Julia came from a breeder in North Carolina that was retiring her along with two others. She is very shy at first but if you give her time, she will warm up, she just has to learn to trust. Please don’t apply just because of her beautiful coloring, you must have the time and patience to help her to become the pet she should be. We’re going to be very picky to ensure she goes to the right, patient home.

Our must haves for this gorgeous girl include:

  • Fenced yard a must
  • No apartments or high-rises
  • Another small, dog around her age that she can learn trust from OR be an only dog to someone that is home a lot!!
  • Someone who is home a lot to help her learn to be a pet and to finish her housebreaking

If you are unable to meet these requirements, please do not apply. We are looking for that special home for this little girl. Once that special home comes along and she learns to be a pet, you are going to have the best little girl there is! She wants love, she’s just not sure yet what that means.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and MidWest. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
