BIO:  Gator came from East Tennessee where his owners were keeping him outside all the time.  A Good Samaritan decided to buy him just to get him to a safe place in rescue. With that being stated, he’s just the sweetest boy and friendly too so he’s been well socialized. He just needs a potty schedule, he’s about 90% there now.

Our must haves for handsome Gator include:

  • A fenced yard that is attached to the house
  • Another younger, small dog to play with
  • Someone who is willing to finish up his house training
  • No apartments or high-rises

If you are looking for a mellow, friendly long hair, then your search is over.  Here he is! Keep in mind that because he is young, Gator will live an average of an additional 15-16 years and we want him in his forever home for the rest of his life.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshunds back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo.  You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.  If you choose transporting by either volunteers through our organization or by paid transporter, there will be an additional $55 fee added for the required Health Certificate.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have an issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
