BIO:  Duffy came from middle Tennessee and was timid when he first came into rescue, but he is now doing fine after being in his foster home for several days. Sadly he did lose 7 teeth so he’ll need to have dental if not every year then every other year to keep the ones he has. He did come to us overweight so he has to lose at least 5 pounds to be healthy. He’ll still be a standard, a small standard but a standard none the less. We have him on a diet to help him lose that weight.

Duffy loves to cuddle and if you sit down he wants to be in your lap to snooze away while you watch TV or read. He used a doggie door in his old home and here so if you don’t have one, you’d have to put him on a schedule to get him used to going to the door to ask to go out.

Our must haves for handsome Duffy include:

  • A secure, fenced yard
  • Another dog or two to keep him company when you are not home
  • Someone who is home more often than not
  • Someone who is willing to walk him to help him get the extra weight off
  • No apartments, high-rises, or condos

Duffy sleeps all night in the foster mom’s room on a dog bed. He loves a fenced in yard and will gladly help your do any lawn work that you need help with. He also loves to go for walks and this would help him to lose weight and keep it off. He was fed off the table at his old home so we are working on him not staring at us while we eat. It took him a bit to realize he was not going to get anything but dog food but now he eats it right down with no problem at all.

When he came to us he only had one accident and since then he’s been accident free.

This boy is so very, very sweet and does not have a mean bone in his body. If you are considering adopting him, please remember that as he loses weight he’ll probably start to get more energy so be prepared for that. Foster mom is a high volume foster home and he’s gotten along with every new dog that has come into the home.

If you have any questions please email his foster mom.

============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form.  They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.

To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page.  Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Click this link to apply: https://www.allamericandachshundrescue.org/apply, it will take you to the application form.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend.  We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest.  We just can't get them from one coast to the other.  Please look for dogs on your coast.
