Update: 2010 - This precious little girl has had a long hard road. Her life began as a puppy mill dog, her only purpose to produce babies that were taken and sold. When she was finally rescued, we found she either had a false pregnancy or had a miscarriage. Her body, her life, her world were all going through tremendous changes at the same time.
When she came to my home, I had heard what a sweet girl Gabrielle was. That was not the dog I found. She began to attack the other dogs. She even tried to attack them through the wire of her crate. She went wild if one even passed near her crate. I had never seen a dog like this and was totally confused as to what to do. The one thing I did know was she needed someone. She had to make it, and I had to find a way to help her. We began our journey together to find her new life.
I’m thrilled to say Gabrielle has been growing and changing so much since she came to my home. She is now able to be out of her crate and lives among the other dogs and myself. She has an Alpha Moment now and then but for the most part is doing well. I love seeing her all curled up on the couch in a pile with the others, sound asleep and keeping each other warm. She even has a best friend now that she romps and plays with. She seems to have a fear of male dogs, and is much happier with only females around.
Ooops! She wasn't potty trained after all!!! But we have been working on it and I'm very proud of how well she has done.
I always seem to thing of  her as a “little imp” She’s just full of life and happiness!!!  You should see her on the bed rolling around, getting as tangled in the covers as possible, and making these deep happy grunting sounds. I can't believe that sound comes from this tiny little girl! It’s too funny !  I don't think I've ever seen her walk. She always darts here and there like she’s been shot out of a cannon. She’s not hyper, as she is as content as can be to sit beside me on the couch and nap or chew a rawhide for as long as I'm there. When she wants to be held and cuddled, she gets so excited she squirms and wiggles all over my lap, up to my shoulder, back to my lap, turning every which way she can. She’s so happy she doesn't know what to do!!!!  I always end up laughing!! Then she gets next to me on the couch and settles down. Of course a tummy rub is always appreciated then. Aaaaah!
Now that Gabrielle has learned how to socialize, it’s time for her to learn a few more things like manners, basic commands and how to walk on a leash. She’s very smart and I see her catching on to more and more things every day. Gabrielle wants so much to please and gain your praise. You can actually see her face light up when you call her “good girl”.    But oh how she hates that leash!
There’s still a whole new world and tons of things to see and do and explore. Her forever family will have tons of very special moments with this little doll as she lives her new life in this wonderful world far away from the puppy mill. Come be that family!!

BIO: Gabrielle (Gabby) is a gorgeous, loving, tiny little girl who came recently from a Puppy Mill.  I was amazed to find she can use a pet door and is potty trained!!! She also is a climber and will not be contained by a simple doggie gate. She fusses when in her crate and is happiest following you around, and staying as close as possible. She is very aggressive with other dogs and needs to be in a home of her own.  Also no children. Gabby is starting to feel more at home now, and I see her becoming playful and happier. Her favorite thing is to get on the couch and scoot and slide all around using her nose to knock all the throw pillows on the floor. She loves to pick up all the rawhide bones and put them in her crate so the house will look neater. Her favorite thing is to cuddle up together on the couch and snuggle in for a little TV. This little lady has a lot of love she wants to give and needs her forever family.Gabby will be available for adoption on October 1!

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
