BIO:  Eddie was released by a breeder, and sadly, when we tested him for heartworms, he tested positive. He has received treatment, and now he’s free of those nasty things. He has had a dental and didn’t lose many teeth, only an upper canine.

Eddie is frightened of any new situation. All we can hope is that in time he’ll understand that things and people are not wanting to hurt him, but only love him. He will need someone with A LOT of PATIENCE. If you don’t have the time or patience for him, please do not apply.

Our must-haves for Mr. Eddie are:

• A fenced yard
• A doggie door would be a plus
• No apartments, condos, or high-rises
• Another adult, small dog for him to pal around with and learn from
• Someone who is willing to take him places to help socialize him

Eddie is the sweetest boy, but as we stated, he has issues with trust. If he’s in an unfamiliar place or with unfamiliar people, he’ll bark, run, and hide. His new family has to understand this and give him time. He is great with his foster mom now... He wags his tail, lets me pick him up, and is happy to see me when I return from being gone! But Eddie will bark at his foster dad when he comes home from work. This boy should not be adopted for his handsome looks alone, it's going to take work for him to become the pet he should be.

If you do not have experience with puppy mill dogs, then Eddie is not for you. I have had him for over 3 months getting him treated, neutered, and a dental. I have seen him make small steps to becoming a pet, but he still has a long way to go. Eddie has made significant progress, but he may never be completely socialized. AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.

There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered. 

We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states.  If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
