TOMMY was left at an over night dropbox at a small shelter in middle TN. Tommy has not been socialized and is timid and scared in new situations. He needs someone that is willing to work with him and show him how to be a pet and take him places and let him meet strangers. He will then begin to understand that no one means him harm and that people are kind. He is very submissive to both male and female dogs. We think best he goes with another dachshund so they can teach him the dachshund ways. He is crate trained and if kept on a schedule will do fine with housetraining. He is just learning to play with the other dogs but is still hand shy and won't let you pick him up unlesss you are sitting on the floor and let him come to you. He just needs time and love and one day he'll wake up and understand what it's like to be a pet. We do think that he came from a puppymill situation and that's why he has the lack of socialization. Please help Tommy to become a pet, you won't regret it and you'll get years of love from this sweet boy.
Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
More about TOMMY....TX
Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
