BIO: Lulu came from Arkansas when a Good Samaritan took her from a bad situation. She had been used for breeding and was abused, so she must learn that people are good and that her life just got better. She is timid at first, but then she opens up and becomes more friendly when she knows you mean her no harm. She tends to be more shy/timid around men, and it takes her longer to warm up to them than women. So, women, if you are looking for your next best friend, Lulu is here and waiting.
Lulu is not good with other female dogs, but she gets along just fine with male dogs. If you are looking for a female companion for your male, she would be a great choice to keep him company when you're away.
Our must-haves for pretty little Lulu include:
- A fenced yard
- Someone who is home more often than not or works from home
- Prefer a women-only home, but it's not necessary; any man in the home will need to understand it will take her longer to warm up to him
- No female dogs, only males
- No apartments, high-rises, or condos
If you meet these requirements, please visit our website to fill out the online adoption application; we’ll be with you shortly. We cannot make exceptions to any of the must-haves, so please don’t ask us to. We do this for the happiness of our dogs.
============== Information for All Dogs/Adopters ==============
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund’s back or get bitten.
If you have questions about this dog, please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed on the bio form. They have the most up-to-date information concerning the dog and would be happy to answer any questions about the animal.
There will be an additional $60 fee added for a required Health Certificate if traveling out of the state in which they are being fostered.
We will not adopt into CT, RI, NH, ME, or MA due to strict laws regarding importation of dogs into those states. If you have any issue with this, you will need to take this up with your legislatures.
To understand the adoption process through AADR, please review the Adoption Information on our home page. Transportation options are outlined on that page in Step 3.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers who will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or Midwest. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. Please look for dogs on your coast.
