Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast. Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Oscar is a 4 year old dachshund mix. His current owner is experiencing some health issues and feels it is in Oscar's best interest to rehome him although she hates to see him go. He would love a fenced-in yard where he can run and play while supervised, but is an inside dog - must not be allowed to live outside. He enjoys playing fetch and tug-of-war but also loves a good tummy rub and cuddle time on the couch with his human companions. Oscar is a happy boy with lots of love and affection to give. His only flaw is that he has never been taught he isn't the master of the home so needs an owner who knows how to lovingly discipline him by setting rules and boundaries. He needs to learn that with good behavior comes love and reward but is altogether a wonderful little guy. He has not had much exposure to other dogs or cats so we're not sure if he'd prefer to be the only pet in his forever home, but a simple meeting can determine that. Oscar is neutered, current on all vaccinations and housetrained. He doesn't require much grooming, just baths and frequent nail trims. He is leashtrained and loves long walks. He loves human affection and would make a wonderful companion for the right loving home. Oscar has been shuffled around too many times in his short time on Earth so his new home must be his forever home.
More about OSCAR
Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
