FOSTER HOME (NAME, CITY & STATE, ZIP, EMAIL) Robin Simpson   Madison, Mississippi 39110 mensa67@comcast.net

Cute-E-Pie. What else can you say? This is the most handsome boy we’ve ever fostered. He knows it, and he knows how to work it. He loves to be held on his back like a baby, and totally relaxes when you pick him up. He has the softest fur, and those big brown eyes will win your heart. He wants nothing more than to be in someone’s lap all the time. He loves his humans, and it can be hard to tell him to stop doing something when he cocks his head and gives you the “but I’m so cute-don’t make me, please” look. He LOVES to get in the tub, and will run into the bathroom whenever he hears the water running and leap in! He doesn’t care if it’s warm or sudsy-he’ll play in there until you take him out.

He gets along with the other dogs, but chases the cat. He is housetrained, and was going to the back door at first, but is using the doggy door now. I think he would do fine as an only dog, or with someone he could play with.

Before being dropped at a shelter in Arkansas, he lived with a family that didn’t know how to work with him. He likely got away with having bad manners, and when we got him he would jump on people, walk all over them, demand petting by sticking his nose under your hand or sitting on your book if you were trying to read. He was not used to wearing a collar or walking on a leash. His previous owner said he darted out the front door every time it was open.

I’m pleased to say that he is very trainable and takes to things quickly. He now knows “sit”, “get down”, and “no”. He is walking on a leash and learning that he is not the head of the family. He needs a family that will be consistent with him, so he doesn’t fall back into his old habits. He loves to be told that he is a good boy, and whenever you talk to him, he gets a case of “happy tail”. He comes with his registration papers.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
