BIO:

Maddie is a girl with a big heart.  Even though she came from a breeder she is not skittish and bonds easily with her humans. She boldly follows the lead of the other dogs when introduced to new situations..  She loves everybody and is fearless and very energetic!  She would do wonderful with children 8 or older.  She will snuggle until something catches her eye and then she is off to investigate.  She would make a very loving and affectionate pet. A home with a fence would be best for Maddie since she shares the dachshund love for hunting and she is quick as lightening when she spots a squirrel or other little critter. She is a very happy girl and her little tail never stops wagging!  She plays hard and by about 8:30 at night she is ready for bed.  She puts herself  to bed but likes to be tucked into her blanket by her foster mom. Since she is such a wiggly girl she sleeps in her dog bed beside her foster brothers. She would do well in a home with at least one other dog.  She loves to play chase with the other dogs here.

Her scarred little ears tell the story of her previous life but with her past already a distant memory, she is ready for a loving family to give her love to!   .

More about Maddie....AL

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
