Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast. Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. She spent the first 4 years of her life in a puppy mill, living in a cage with very little human contact. When Cookie came into Rescue she was terrified and had no idea what it meant to be a dog, much less what it meant to be LOVED. At first she spent much of her time trembling and hiding under furniture, but she is coming out of her shell and gets more confident and affectionate every day. She loves to be held and petted, appreciates a good tummy rub, and follows her foster mom around like a little shadow. Cookie is well-behaved and is eager to please once she understands what is being asked of her. She is learning to come when called, rides nicely in the car, and loves going for walks (she prefers a harness and strongly protests when a leash is attached to her collar). Cookie is housetrained but must be let out regularly because she is still too shy to ask to go out on her own. She seems to feel safe in her kennel and sleeps there at night, sometimes also retreating to it during the day when things get too hectic for her. Cookie was experiencing some skin problems and hair loss when she came into Rescue, but the condition has been treated and her coat is filling in nicely. Cookie would probably do best in a home with older children and a quiet environment because too much activity is overwhelming for her. She gets along well with other dogs, both male and female, and often looks to her foster brother and sister for support when she is unsure of what is happening around her. She has not been exposed directly to cats at this time, and shows no interest when walking by kitties at the pet store. She is very passive and I do not think cats would be a problem. Cookie needs a lot of patience, understanding, and love to help her build confidence and reach her full potential. She is desperately looking for someone to trust and bond with and in return promises to be one of the most loyal, loving companions you will ever have! Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome.
