Tripod is only 8 years old but he is already showing how distinguished he is with his gray. Tripod was rescued from a high kill shelter but is doing very good in his foster home. He is friendly and does very well with other dogs once he gets used to them, as far as cats it does take him a little more time to get used to them. Once he's used to them he doesn't even mind them. He does not do well with small children. He had a skin condition but after medication is all better now. At times he does show signs of dry skin.
Tripod would prefer a home that someone stays home all day. Although he does well with other dogs he would probably do better as the only pet in the house. Tripod pulls a little on a leash and but would love to have someone walk him everyday.
I have had Tripod since October and he has been a joy to foster. He will stand by the water bowl and cry to let me know I need to fill it. He also does this by the door should he need to go out. When he feels he needs to be petted he also cries until I relent and pet him.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
