BIO: Hello, my name is Ollie and I am about 5 years old.  My foster mom says I act like I am closer to 2 years old.  I LOVE to play with squeak toys and am super curious about life.  I think this is because my life did not start out too good.  I was living on the streets and my back legs did not work at all.  I had to use my front legs to drag my body around.  I do not remember what happened, but my vet says I suffered from a slipped disc in my back.  I was so scared in the shelter, and I heard someone say I was on the list to be put down.  I'm not sure what that meant, but the next thing you know I was in a nice lady's car on the way to my foster home.

I have had 3 months of therapy and feel like a new man.  There are things I can never do again: wrestle with other dogs, jump on or off furniture, or play tug of war.  I need to go to a home where my family understands my special needs, but please know that this does not slow me down.  I should not be around small children as I am still scared of loud noises and fast moving people.  I would not make a good apartment dog since I like to be vocal about noises and cars passing by.

From my foster mom:  Ollie is the sweetest boy, and would make a wonderful pet for the right family.  He will be available to go to his forever home on AUGUST 1, 2010

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
