This love bug, we know as Tyler, was turned into a kill shelter in Louisiana because he was found hobbling around the streets and wouldn't eat anything that was given to him. A kind worker at the shelter found us, and those days of hobbling are long ago. Tyler had a ruptured disc in his back that had to be repaired with back surgery by Dr. Van Hooser in Montgomery, AL, and he flew through his physical therapy faster than anyone had ever anticipated. All that is left of what used to be two legs that were drug behind his body is the cutest waddle you have ever seen as he is prancing whereever he goes. Tyler is a magnificent baby who loves to snuggle with his foster mom and likes to play really hard with his toys. He would be fine in a home with other dogs as long as they understood they weren't the leader of the pack. He has been tested with older children and has been nothing but friendly, but he has every instinct of a dachshund and loves to chase those furry little kitties. He is UTD on shots, heartworm negative, had a dental in 07/07 and is on Interceptor and Frontline. If you want a baby that wants to snuggle with you and has more love than you can imagine you don't have to look any further because Tyler belongs in your home.

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
