BIO: Spikey's mom got laid off 8 months ago. She lost her house, her car and had been staying with Spikey at an extended stay hotel. A month ago, the hotel management had given her a final warning to give up Spikey or she would be out on the street. She did not want to leave Spikey in a shelter so she reached out to AADR for help.

Spikey is the sweetest dog. He is mild-mannered and well-behaved. He kept mostly to himself the first two weeks with his foster mom, but now he has come out of his shell and loves to play with his foster brother, another doxie. There is nothing more that Spikey loves than his squeaky toys. He also loves to play tug-of-war with his foster brother, loves to play catch with his foster dad and loves the yummy pupperoni treats his mom gives him.

Spikey is very loyal and very friendly. He has so much love to give. All he wants is a family to love and a home to call his forever-home.

Good with Dogs

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
