BIO:
*******WOMEN ONLY**********
Toby 5 was taken to a vet clinic here in middle TN when his female owner has to go into a spousal abuse center. She came out but never came back to get him. After he'd been at the vet clinic for 3 mos and was realized to be given up by the vet clinic they contacted us to see if we would take him. They called him "that crazy Toby". What they didn't realize is 1. Dachshunds don't do well in cages for long periods of time and 2. He was probably abused by the man of the house as well. It took him about 2-3 weeks to let the foster dad pick him up but foster dad feeds ever day. He does not come to foster dad to ask to be picked up but does ask his foster mom for attention. He is a very quiet boy, no excessive barking, is housebroken and walks well on a leash. We think Toby 5 would do well in a **WOMEN ONLY** home or where the husband knows that he won't be #1 and is patient enough to win Toby 5's trust. Many times with spousal abuse the animals are abused in the home as well and we are sure that happened to Toby 5 as well.
We want the very best for Toby 5 because he is a wonderful dachshund and needs to finish out his life in peace and no fear of being abuse again. Because of his abuse we believe no children should be in the home but possible in time and trust he would be fine with older well behaved children.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.
If you have questions about this dog please feel free to contact the foster home at the email address listed above. We welcome out of state and Canadian adoptions, but we will not ship any dog via cargo. Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options. More about TOBY5...TN

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
