Update: Here is an email update from Oscar's foster mom! "Oscar LOVES going on walks, and would be a good fit for someone that is very active. I take him on 2 mile
run/walks, and he never slows down! He is awesome on a leash! He has a lot of
energy! I also think that he should probably go to a home that has other dogs
so that he will have a companion"

Oscar came to rescue picked up by a local animal services. His family was called, he was a "repeat" offender, and they said they didn't want him and wouldn't pick him up, so dachshund rescue was called. His foster mom has no idea why a family wouldn't want Oscar, because he's a happy, loving little boy and is a joy to have around! He enjoys his foster brothers and sisters, his foster mom and dad, the neighbors grandkids, walks well on a leash, and IS HOUSETRAINED!!! What's not to like??? OK, if you want to make Oscar your forever family member, you need a secure fence and/or always keep him on a leash. He's not shown to be an escape artist at his foster family's house, but he does have a history. We don't know if he was just expected to "hang around the house" or what, but we want to make sure he's safe forever. He may want to mark a bit if you have other dogs, but quickly gets bored with the macho routine and behaves like a gentleman.

Oscar looks older than his years with his face showing graying. But he certainly doesn't act old! He's spunky, spry, alert, playful, and full of fun! He likes to chase birds that are near the bird feeder or in the shrubs in the yard and loves to "destuff" squeaky toys to make sure the world is safe from their menace. He likes to roll in the floor wiggling on his back or in his bed and groans and moans to make sure you're watching him---WHAT A CLOWN! If you're looking for a great addition to your family and have lots of love to give, Oscar is a little boy that will bring big time fun to your house. He gets along with everybody! If you have questions or want more pictures, email his foster mom: Stephanie smburmei@comcast.net.

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
