BIO:

Opey is one of the biggest snuggler’s you would ever want to meet.  If you are in a chair on the couch this little cuddlier will not be far from you.  He came to us from a breeder and was very timid at first and very hesitant to even play with his foster brothers and sisters.  He is not the same dog now.  Each day is out patrolling the fence (if it’s not wet or cold, you can’t expect a doxie to go outside in those conditions) with his brothers and sisters.  If you like to be greeted like you are the best thing since sliced bread than Opey is the doggie for you.  Just walking in the door his little tail gets to wagging so fast he almost get air time and takes off.  It may take him a bit to warm up to you completely, but once he does you will have the most devoted friend you could ever ask for.

He sleeps in his big boy crate at night and loves to go in there a bit early to scratch the blankets into the perfect shape for him.  He is just a content to sleep on the big bed with you as well and loves a mid day nap if you can fit it in.  He has the typical ravenous doxie approach to food.  We make sure to fed him in his own area and own bowl just like the other doggies in the house to avoid an unpleasant events at breakfast time.  He is house broken and will give you notice on when he has to go.  There is the occasional accident, but those have been cases when we didn’t notice that he was giving us fair warning that he needed to go out.

We have never seen him demonstrate any hostility towards any one.  We have a five year old little girl and Opey and her get along just great.  He even tolerates the occasional time when she wants him to play camping with her under table with her blankets.  He gets along great with all of his foster brothers and sisters and has never even made a move to be aggressive towards them.  The only thing aggressive about this little boy is his kisses when you sit down and the amount of love he has to give.

The only little thing is that he will yelp out if you barely bump him with you foot.  Not sure what this is from, but he has some fear from something that happened in his past.  This little guy simply deserves the chance to have a forever home that will give him as much love as he has to give.  The only thing he wants to do in return is to love you back, give you Opey Kisses, and have you rub his tummy.   This great little guy deserves a great home with hearts that will love him back.

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport.

If shipping by volunteers through our organization or paid transporter, then there will be an additional $35 fee for the Health Certificate required. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

More about OPEY...TN

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
