BIO:

Otis is a wonderful dog.  He loves to be on a lap and it doesn't matter whose. He loves to watch television at night with us and snuggle.  He is not a barker and doesn't even bark when all my other dogs bark.  In the pet store he will get excited if another dog comes in but he will settle down when the dog leaves his sight.  He is all dachshund and will get stubborn sometimes.  For example, when he is walked on a nice fall day he likes to lay down in the leaves and will need a little cajoling to get him up!

Otis is housetrained but will need to be kept on a schedule and is crate trained and many times will go in his crate when you are home just to lay down and sleep. He is not food aggressive but he does want all the toys to himself, we think in time he’ll get better with this and with some work.

We think he’d be fine with a cat because the foster home has a cat but we think he would just need to be crated when the family is not home so the cat would feel safe. Kids are fine but we’d say older children 10 and up that know how to treat dachshunds.

He loves to go to PetsMart and out anywhere that he can see other dogs and people.

He is coming with a 5 mos supply of heartgard that will need to be given to him until gone then re-tested again for heartworms.

Please give this wonderful boy a new home for the new year.

More about OTIS...CT

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
