BIO: Swirls was rescued by the AADR from a puppy mill in Georgia. She’s a miniature dachshund, red-haired with a chocolate nose, and expressive set of hazel-colored eyes. Swirls is a sweetheart of a dog with a lot of love and who desperately wants to be loved, something she has sadly been deprived of much of her 3 years. She is still quite afraid of new people, and tends to react defensively (though never aggressively). With a little rehabilitation and a lot of love, she can become a cherished member of anybody’s family.Swirls is fully housetrained, a total snuggler, plays well with other animals (including cats) and is loyal and affectionate especially to her chosen person. Swirls will take well to a crate when she is alone for prolonged periods and may sleep there. Currently she sleeps with her foster parents and three doxie foster siblings. She is a lovely little dog and deserves an equally lovely home.
More about SWIRLS....MA
Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
