FOSTER HOME Stephanie smburmei@comcast.net Huntsville, AL

Brach turned in to a shelter because they had way too many dogs and no longer wanted them.  So, Brach and 8 other mini dachshunds need forever homes! All of these dogs were given names of candy, so we call them the Sugar Babies! Brach and his brother, Pez are hanging out with their new foster family and enjoying getting more one-on-one attention. Brach is a little timid when you first meet him, but his happy; playful side emerges quite quickly. And, you won’t find a sweeter, more loving little boy! He has a gentle spirit and is quite laid-back, even for being a young boy. He loves to be with his people, preferably in someone’s lap, and enjoys playing with his new foster brother, who is much larger than him.

Brach would be fine with children with his gentle temperament, but is very small and LOOONG! So, children must be old enough to understand the importance of careful handling with a small, delicately built dog. Brach shares treats and food with his brother and shows no food/treat possessiveness and is starting to learn to chase toys. Of course, he runs back to mom with his toy each time for praise and to give a few puppy kisses!

Brach has been kept on a predictable eat/potty schedule at his foster home and is doing beautifully! He was neutered young, so he never learned the “marking” thing---much to his foster mom’s delight. However, Brach is still a puppy, so you must be willing to continue keeping him on a schedule and rewarding him with praise. Brach is sensitive, wants to please his people and will never respond to scolding. He does enjoy treats, so he’s a willing student with a treat in your pocket! Brach has never been an only dog and would do well with a brother or sister that would show him the ropes and help him understand what it’s like to be a well balanced big boy! He’s not been cat tested, but we’re guessing he would be accepting of cats without a problem. WE HAVE 2 FEMALES THAT LOOK VERY SIMILAR, They look the same, similar in size, are the same age as Brach, and have very similar sweet, people-loving temperaments!!!

If you have any questions or want more pictures, email his foster mom, Stephanie: smburmei@comcast.net   THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE!

Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. If transporting by volunteers through our organization or a commercial transporter, a $35 fee for the Health Certificate must be added to the adoption fee. Please don't let the distance stand in the way of adding a new love to your live! We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other. Please Read Before You Adopt to learn more about transportation options.  If you are interested in adopting this Dachshund please Read Before You Adopt and Fill Out an Application.

More about Brach...NY

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
