BIOGRAPHY:

Maddy is a wonderful little dog, she came from a breeder in Tallahassee, Florida. She is shy at first when she meets you but then warms up to you and want s to be your best buddy. She is very active and will follow you all over the house. She jumps very high, vertically, she can scale a 3 foot high gate in one leap, so she will need to be in a crate in the house until you get to know her when you go out on errands or make sure she is ok on her own. She will need a fenced in yard at least 4 feet high that she cannot climb or leap (she’s good at that). She is good on a leash but has not gotten down the fact that you can also potty on the leash, right now she holds it in for hours. She knows when she is let out in a yard that she can go potty and does so.

She likes to eat dry dog food. She is very smart and will learn very quickly anything you want to teach her. She lives to please YOU.

She gives lots of kisses and walks on a leash very well. She has the looks of a Yorkshire terrier and the long body of a dachshund. Her legs are longer than a dachshunds, like a yorkie. Because she has the long hair of a yorkie, she needs her ears cleaned with ear rinse once a week, or she gets itchy ears.

She has a very moderate, easy going temperament and loves older children (11 or 12 years old).  She loves to be pet and sit in your lap, I am sure she would love to sleep with you at at night in your bed too!  She is crate trained and will go to sleep in a crate at night if you prefer, no problems there, not even a whimper of protest. She is clipped down now, because when she came from the breeder she had long hair and her coat was not taken care of and all matted and dirty. The  groomer thought it be best to clip her down and start over with regular brushing and coat care.  She has the longer coat of a Yorkshire terrier.

Maddie is looking for her furever home where she can start over and have a family love her completely like she is supposed to have. She deserves that much and more. If you think you can offer her a lifetime of love and happiness, please fill out an adoption application on her. She’s waiting on you now.

More about Maddie...FL

Good with Dogs, Not Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
