VALERIE came in with SHORTIE from an owner in AL that said she got them from someone else for a friend of hers and then the friend didn't want them. We aren't too sure about this story but we think it was the luckiest day of there life. They both came in very timid but are doing better and better each day. VALERIE would do best with another dog so she can learn to be a pet. She does love to eat so will need to have the amount of food she takes in monitored so she doesn't get too heavy. When she went to the vets for her dental if was discovered that she still had some of her baby teeth and after an x-ray it was determined that she didn't have any adult teeth where the baby ones were so the baby ones had to be pulled but her other teeth are very healthy and the teeth that had to be pulled will not bother her down the road. We were told by the lady that surrendered her that she is papertrained, we have a doggie door and uses it so if no doggie door with crate training she would be fine. She will not go in her crate. She is UTD on all shots, heartworm negative and on Interceptor and Frontline. If you are interested in find out more about VAL please e mail. She is a doll baby and becoming more and more socialized and will need to continue this into her new home.
WE WILL NOT SHIP OUR DOGS CARGO, TOO MANY HORROR TALES HAVE HAPPENED FOR US TO FEEL COMFORTABLE DOING THIS. IF WE CAN'T TRANSPORT BY LAND THEN YOU'LL HAVE TO FLY TO THE CITY THAT THE DOG IS BEING FOSTERED IN TO GET HIM/HER. Out of state and Canadian adoptions are welcome. We have several transporters that for a fee will bring the dog as close to you as possible up the Eastern seaboard or down to FLORDIA. A home visit is required on all adoptions. We also micro chip all our dogs and must pass the cost on to the adopter. It is only $10.00. Thank you for your interest in a rescue. To fill out an application for this dog please go to www.ssdr.org and fill out an app. we will be in touch shortly to do a phone interview. It is also best to have a dog in mind that you would like to adopt or if you don't please let us know that you'd like a dog that best fits your lifestyle. Keep in mind that we are all volunteers and have other obligations so please let your references and vet know that we will be calling to vai all info that you put on your application. If you use two vets then please let us know that so we get all info on your dog possible to determine if you are a suitable home for our dog. If you do not let us know these things this maybe the factor that you will be turned down to adopt one of our dogs.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
