Brownie is a healthy and happy neutered male. He will be 5 years old in May. He comes from a home that had him for 4 years as he was left by his first family at a doggie day care when he was about 1.  He has always had other dogs to play with as the family that had him had 3 pugs. Due to circumstances beyond their control, they were unable to keep him. As his foster mom and family, we have come to love him and he quickly fit in with our family and 2 dachshunds. He loves going for walks and walks well on a leash. He gets along well with the other dogs, but I have been told he does not like cats or pet rodents. He is a bit of a barker, so he would make a good watch dog. He is completely housetrained to outdoors and I was amazed at how quickly he took to wee pads so he knows both. He will let you know he has to go and knows the word "potty." He also knows the words, "go for a walk" and gets very excited when he sees his leash. He loves to cuddle and be in your lap when the family is watching TV at night. He also loves cuddling under a nice fluffy comforter with someone at night. Right now he is sleeping with my 12 year old. He can sit and stay. I have been told he is a huge Patriots fan…!!  He has his own Patriots blanket that will go with him as well as his crate, bed, special toys, leash and harness. He doesn't do well with stuffed toys as he likes to take the stuffing out.  We are not sure how he is with younger children, but he is fine with children 10 and older. He has tested positive for Lyme disease, which means he has been exposed to Lyme, but has not gotten sick from it. He is being treated now on antibiotics and will need to be checked up after that to make sure it's gone. Also depending on where he goes, flea and tick protection will be a must for this boy. He is a boy who likes to be right by your side and is very happy in that spot, so a home that can spend lots of time with him and attention would be best. He is definitely a sweet, cute little guy and deserves a great home and any home that gets him would be very lucky!

More about Brownie...NH

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
