BIO:

Tess is a sweet, well behaved young doxie mix who has quite a sad background. She spent the first 6 years of her life in a rural county of Alabama tied to a tree, 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Tess had never even been in a house, must less, to a vet. When her owners became so poverty-stricken that they could no longer provide food for Tess; they gave her to a Good Samaritan who called on AADR to help her. Although her background is sad, she has no behavior issues that would lead you to think she was anything but happy all the time! Now she has a foster home, is allowed inside, eats quality food, and is fully vetted and rid of intestinal parasites. Her transition has been remarkable----Tess has perfect indoor manners and enjoys every minute of her new lot in life! Tess is 100% housetrained, sleeps quietly in her crate all night and when her foster parents are away, walks well on a leash and loves everybody she meets! She LOVES to be loved and get attention and is basking in the joy of being part of a family. We’ve found that Tess is a very smart girl and quickly learns routines and boundaries.

Unfortunately, the years of living outside left Tess with Heartworms and she must go through the series of treatments. But AADR is dedicated to getting this girl in the best shape of her life and she will remain in foster care until the vet gives Tess the OK to go to her forever home. We expect Tess to be available towards the end of September and will be updating her status as she progresses through the stages. That doesn’t prevent you from putting in an application to adopt Tess, go through the approval process, and be ready to have her join your family! Tess is a great girl, easy to have around and is full of energy and personality and has LOTS of love to give! You will be blessed with Tess’s love and devotion for many years to come!

If you have any questions or want more pictures, email her foster mom, Stephanie: smburmei@comcast.net   THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE!

More about Tess...AL

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
