BIO:

Staci is a tiny and VERY beautiful girl that came from a puppy mill in Missouri. She spent all her life producing puppies and is learning to be a spoiled little girl. Staci was timid at first, but quickly learned that life is fun and she is loved. Staci is not a “hard case” in relation to some puppy mill dogs and is socializing very well. She comes when called, enjoys affection, and loves her people. Staci is VERY fond of her foster dad!!! She thinks mom is great, but when dad is home---he’s her idol! It’s funny to watch how she prances around the house when her dad is home and she follows him where ever he goes. So, we suggest a home with a dad who is prepared to enjoy his own person fan club!

Staci has done very well with housetraining and is quite treat motivated. When she potties outside and as soon as her mom says “good girl” she comes for a treat! She still has a few accidents, but with a little patience, she’ll get in the habit of going outside. Whoever adopts Staci can expect her to be a bit scared and timid, but she comes out of her shell quickly. Within a week, she was already doing “happy puppy” behaviors such as rolling on her back and wiggling just because she’s happy and secure and exploring and playing in the yard. She’s quite the snuggle bug as well! Please note that the breeder who turned her in said she’s 2-4 years old and her vet paperwork lists her as 4 years old. But we suspect she’s probably around 2-3 years old.

Staci gets along well with others—both male and female. She has not been cat tested but most cats are bigger than her and we don’t expect her to bother them. Staci has not been kid tested, but we notice that she listens intensely when she hears a child’s voice when she’s outside or from the television and seeks the source of the voice. So, we expect she’ll be fine with children who are old enough to treat her gently and she displays no aggression at all. She is too small to be with children who might try and pick her up or fall on her. Staci sleeps in a crate at night and while her family is away although she’s not very happy about it. She’d rather be with her people, but she quiets after she’s protested a bit. Once she’s reliable with her housetraining, she will probably be content on a bed/sofa and she’s not destructive.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteer that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast or up and down the West Coast. We just can't get them from one Coast to the other but some day we hope to have enough volunteers to do that as well for now please look for dogs on your coast.

More about Staci...NC

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
