Experienced dachshund owner
Oscar lives to be loved. If you are looking for a companion, Oscar is your man. He is an awesome little pup with the sweetest disposition. Since coming to his foster home he has been his foster mom’s shadow. Oscar wants to be where he can keep an eye on her and all the activity in the house. He likes to play but he seems happiest when he is in your lap, lying next to you in the recliner watching TV or snoozing with you in the “big bed”. Although, he is very attached to his human, he does not show any signs of separation anxiety when left at home with only his foster brothers and sisters for company. When his humans are away, Oscar stays quietly in his crate just waiting for their return. Or, even better, he can go with them! Oscar rides very well in the car.
Oscar has a slight deformity in his front legs causing some instability in his “knees”. Dachshund legs are slightly crooked and Oscar’s have an exaggeration of this feature. He runs and plays with the other pups but does seem to tire more easily. When he does tire, his little knees seem a bit more unstable. Having this going on with his knees, Oscar will sometimes do his little Charlie Chaplin walk. You can’t help but love this little guy. Oscar should avoid stairs, jumping off of furniture and extended walks or runs. These activities can stress his joints. Oscar will also need his new family to be his protector. Given the instability in his front legs, it is difficult for him to protect himself and if knocked off his feet, it is hard for him to recover quickly. If you are willing to do these few things for Oscar, he will repay you with a lifetime of love and complete, undying devotion. Now that’s a great deal!
Oscar will do well in a home with another friendly pup or one in which he is the one and only center of the love and attention.
