Spirit is a beautiful dapple Tweenie who needs a patient owner. She warms up but she has to go at her own speed. She is sweet and loving as well as playful if allowed to blossom and not pushed. We are working on housebreaking which is also requiring a soft touch as she is so frightened. She is doing well being with the other dogs and following their lead.
She is a one owner girl and protective of her owner. She has shown no aggression and eats well with the pack. She takes treats very gently and is very food motivated which will make her training easier.
She has been bounced around her whole life and desperately needs an understanding and loving owner to settle in with forever.

Good with Dogs, Is Not Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
