BIO

Sophia is a happy dog who loves to be with her humans.  She loves to lie on your lap and is just happy to be where you are.  She appears to have been the dog of somebody who took the time to do a little training with her.  She is a loving mom to her pups and takes very good care of them.  She has integrated into her new pack very nicely without any arguing with the other canines or fosters.  Simple and ideal dog.

Sophia was dropped off at a shelter one day prior to giving birth to her puppies.  She gave birth to her puppies and was rescued by AADR the next day and taken to her foster home.

Sophia uses our dog door, gets on well with the other pups and wants to please.  She has been trained to ‘sit pretty’ by her previous owners however we’re trying to re-train this behavior because that position isn’t good for a dachshund’s delicate back.  She likes to sing and will howl with you too.  We’ll work on other behaviors like sit and stay as soon as she begins separating from her pups.  She is house-broken.

Sophia would love to have some canine playmates yet if those weren’t available, she’d like the human variety to keep her company and to play with.

More about Sophia,,MN

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
