Just look at my pictures! Have you ever seen such a cute, wiry boy? I am just as good a dog as I look.  At least, that is what everybody says when they meet me. When my original family broke up, they could not take me with them.  The little boy who loved me had to give me away, so now I am looking for a new forever home. I love to play with my foster family dogs and people. I am a really great squirrel watcher and I get a thrill letting everybody know where they are.  My foster mom is trying to teach me not to dig, but isn’t that what dachsies are supposed to do? Anyway, I listen to her when she calls me even though it is hard to leave the yard when I am having such so much fun! I guess you could say I have a lot of energy. Sleeping on the big bed with my paws in the air and cuddling with my foster mom and dad and my other dachsie pals is another of my favorite things to do. If you have room for me in your heart and home, please give me a chance to prove how much fun I am to have around and how much love I can give. You will have a faithful, forever friend!

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
