BEING FOSTERED IN AL......
SMOKIE IS SO HANDSOME!!! This gorgeous little guy makes George Clooney, Tom Cruise, and Brad Pitt look like a hair ball the cat has thrown up. His foster mom feels like the star quarterback's prom date when they go out. He has been in many homes in his short life and foster mom has spent the time he has been with her trying to figure out why. He is being fostered by a single adult female with no children and Smokie has thrived while being with her. Smokie's revolving door past does make him bond very strongly to the one person he feels he can depend on. He will want to be with his person all the time. Smokie does not need to be adopted to a family with children or cats. He does need a fenced in back yard so he can explore and work on perfecting his landscaping skills. He will need to be shut up away from any doors he could bolt out. He is not trying to escape. He just does n't want his person to leave him and he is trying to follow. He is not good with men. A man may have used harsh correction with him which has left him fearful of men. He is doing great with his house training skills and responds wonderfully to positive reinforcement. He will need continued work on his housebreaking skills in his new home. He has had a habit of marking when he is in unfamiliar surroundings. It is very important that Smokie have a regular schedule where he can know what to expect. He needs a set routine in order to provide him the security he has never had. His foster mom thinks he is the grandest thing since sliced bread and he returns those feelings ten fold. Out of State and Canadian adopters are welcome. We do not ship our dogs cargo. You will have to make arrangements to pick up the dog or for them to go by ground transport. THANK YOU FOR YOUR INTEREST IN A RESCUE.

Good with Dogs, Good with Cats, Is Not Good with Kids
AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.
Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
