BIO:

Vida is a VERY beautiful, petite young lady who was saved from life as a puppy mill breeder. She has learned that people are good and life as a spoiled rotten lap dog is GREAT! When Vida came to rescue, housetraining was a new concept. But, she is doing nicely and rarely has an accident if kept on a schedule. She enjoys being outdoors with the other dogs, gets along well with both males and females. She is untested with cats, but should be OK based on her temperament.

Vida can still be a little skittish over new situations and her forever family should expect to give her a little time and patience to adjust. But, Vida spends lots of time with her foster mom and LOVES to be petted, held, and loved. She enjoys lounging on the sofa with her family and doggie siblings. She is crated during the night and while mom is away during the day and has adapted to her new routine very nicely. A home with no children or older children that know to take it slow and let her adjust on her own terms would be best. Vida would also like a buddy to show her the ropes and a fenced yard would make her a very happy girl!

Good with Dogs, Good with Kids

AADR does not recommend dachshunds for families with children under 5, or families planning to have children during the dog's lifetime. Dachshunds are often not patient with little kids, and kids can accidentally hurt a dachshund's back or get bitten.

Please don't let the distance stand in your way of finding your newest best friend. We have volunteers that will help your "new friend" get up and down the East Coast and mid-west. We just can't get them from one coast to the other. For now, please look for dogs on your coast.
